WorkCover NSW – Height Safety Audit
Workplace Access & Safety Pty Ltd was commissioned by WorkCover NSW to carry out a height safety audit at their Test Safe Australia site. The site presented various issues of non compliance with regard to safe access to the roof and roof mounted plant and equipment.
Under NSW laws, there are specific requirements for working at heights, and mandatory control measures and process to be put in place to comply.
The report provided WorkCover NSW with an overall picture of these issues, with all identified hazards risk rated and recommend works documented and costed so that WorkCover could budget and plan for the works.
With the height safety audit report, WorkCover NSW was able to formulate a works program for the installation of fall prevention equipment.
Control measures that were fabricated and installed by Workplace Access & Safety included
- Step type ladders for access to the roof.
- A maintenance free sliding type access hatch, so that the user could always maintain 3 points of contact while getting on and off the roof.
- A fully engineered static line system and anchorage points so that contractors could safely clean the windows from an open ledge.
WorkCover achieved their goal of providing a safe workplace for their employees and contractors whilst working within their allocated budget.
