What is a Confined Space?
A confined space is any enclosed or partially enclosed environment that:
- Is not designed for continuous human occupancy
- Has restricted entry or exit points
- May contain hazardous conditions, such as low oxygen, toxic gases, or materials that could engulf a person
How often should I conduct a Confined Space Assessment on my site?
A confined space assessment should be conducted at least every 3 years according to the Confined Space Code of Practice.
How far in advance do I need to book my inspection?
Once you have an agreement in place with Workplace Access & Safety, we will remind you 6 weeks prior to it falling due.
How do I organise an inspection or learn about my site’s Confined Space requirements?

I have an old Confined Space Register — how often should this be updated?
A confined space register should be updated at least every 3 years, or sooner if there are changes to site conditions.
What documentation should I have for Confined Spaces onsite?
At a minimum, you should have:
- A Confined Space Asset Register
- A Risk Assessment Report with asset-specific details
- A site plan showing all Confined Space locations linked to the asset register
- An entry procedure manual
- A rescue plan for each Confined Space type
