Roofing Company Fined $3000 After Apprentice Falls from Roof:
A roofing company was convicted and fined after a 16 year old first
year apprentice roof tiler fell 4.5 metres from a metal beam to a
bitumen road surface in Chirnside Park on 4 October 1999. At the time
of the incident, the apprentice and two other workers were installing
temporary guardrailing. Rather than using a scaffold or an elevated
work platform, the men were working from ladders and from the
unfinished roof without safety harness systems.
